Meet the Team
Gaynor van der Burton
A Personal Trainer and Nutritional Advisor with a background in mass participation sporting events working with councils, charities and universities to engage people in physical activity.
Gaynor founded Fitfish in 2011 after God planted the seed in her heart and quickly grew it through words and circumstances
Sharon works full time in further education, and is fortunate to be in job which she loves where no two days are the same. However, one of her great passions outside of work is volunteering as a member of the Fitfish team. Having trained as a Life Coach, she has been involved since 2012, providing one to one coaching sessions, delivering workshops and being part of the ministry team. She loves spending time with people, helping them to be intentional in thinking about their emotional, physical and spiritual health – and in doing so, becoming more of the person God created them to be.
Claire is a portfolio GP, working part time in the NHS and part time for a variety of organisations in a voluntary capacity. Claire first came on a Fitfish retreat as a guest in 2012 and has been part of the team since 2013. She loves being able to combine her medical expertise with her faith, encouraging people to live healthier fuller balanced lives. Claire also has responsibility for pastoral care at her church and loves to have the opportunity to pray with people on retreat.
Ministry Leader and Massage Therapist
Peter works by day as a Clinical Dental Technician, seeing patients to make and fit new dentures for them. Prior to this he felt led to learn the skill of sports massages and has been able to use this with Fit Fish since it launched.
Peter has a passion to serve God and has been involved in many ministry roles over the years since working as a Youth Pastor for number of years.
Peter says “Seeing people revive their relationship in Christ is a great delight but allowing them space to relax with a good massage and give them time out is a pleasure too.”
Anne is a retired accounts manager. In a complete change of direction she now looks after the catering for the Fitfish retreats at the House of Bread. The emphasis is on healthy eating with lots of nutritious, easy to follow recipes. Most of the recipes are available on the website so guests can try them for themselves when they go home and continue their healthy lifestyle.
Abigail is a Postural Stability, Pilates and Exercise to Music Instructor, teaching a variety of classes and styles. Her focus is on improving strength, balance and mobility in order to help people improve their quality of life. She loves dancing and using music to brighten up a workout.
Sam is a keen martial artist and competes in the UK and worldwide. Combining his knowledge of Martial Arts, and his 5 years experience as a football coach, he has been able to help many people get back into fitness, or start their own journey through a variety of sports coaching and private sessions which he bases around his specialty of circuit training.
“There is nothing I love more, than to see the guests after a Fitfish weekend, going away with either renewed or a new found confidence to achieve their fitness goals but also knowing they have had time to work on their emotional and spiritual health at the same time.”
Sue is a GP and a nutritionist, and works as a traditional GP but also has a passion for Lifestyle Medicine which combines her experience in both medicine and nutrition with her love for exercise and a holistic approach to health. She has a special interest in weight management, and works with various organisations aiming to help people lose weight, and also tutors on a weight management course at her local University. She has been part of the Fitfish team since 2011 and loves to help guests discover how a healthy lifestyle can have an impact on their Christian journey
